History
“What began as a hobby in Florence’s kitchen nearly 50 years ago, has become a lifelong passion for bringing happiness through deliciousness by sharing with others the gift of perfectly created chocolates.
In college, Florence learned the art of hand dipping while working for the Allen Wertz Candy Company. She then refined her skills by making chocolates for friends and family, and later teaching the art of hand dipping chocolates through community and college continuing education classes.
While Florence and her sweetheart, Var, had always had a dream of owning their own business, it took a unique collision of events and circumstances to see the dream come true.
The Teton Dam disaster; a poor economy; Var’s acquisition of the Rexburg Cold Storage building; the help of her children, and Florence’s amazing talents, all combined to motivate and create the vision of their new business. In February of 1981, the dream became reality, as the first customers walked through the doors of Mom’s Kandy Kitchen, which would become Florence’s Exquisite Candies. Fed and nurtured by Florence’s boundless energy for life and her love of fine chocolates, the business continued to grow and prosper.
In 1996, Florence handed over the torch of her passion to her son, Brian, who now carries on her tradition of excellence by allowing only the highest quality ingredients of pure chocolate, fresh cream and butter, fruits and nuts, that create the amazing harmony of flavors and textures found in every piece of chocolate.
Florence’s Exquisite Candies are a rare gem of tantalizing decadence enjoyed by customers around the world, who are always left craving for more and smiling with satisfaction.”
